Jay-Z "TAKEOVER" or Nas's "ETHER"

.. And The Winner Is? Nas' Ether or Jay-Z's Takeover?

OK, We All Know Who Won The War Between Both Artists. But The Battle That Ensued Over The Vacant Throne Of New York Hip-Hop After The Passing Of Biggie Gave Us Two Of The Best Diss Tracks Ever Made. So The Relevant Question Is, In Hindsight, Which One Is Better?

Better Beat: Takeover

The sample of The Doors' "Five To One" is what pushes Kanye's hard knocking beat over the top. It is far more energetic than Ron Browz slower orchestral pulsating production.

Better Chorus: Ether

I can recite Nas' complex long winded chorus from the top of my dome. It's that catchy and far more challenging than Jay's simple "R.O.C. We Running this Rap Shit!" Nas takes Jay's I will not lose proclamation and turns it on its head, so I give it to Nas.

Better Lyrics: Draw

Both guys go hard. Nas is more focused on the Roc-A-Fella camp while Jay takes on other New York heavyweights such as Mobb Deep and pretty much gave Prodigy's rep an uppercut at the time by showing Summer Jam's audience pictures of the young Prodigy participating in a fruity dance recital. In the end, Ether has far surpassed Jay's Takeover in hip-hop culture itself. In hip-hop circles, the term "Ether" is now used to describe the ultimate diss. As in, "Yo Pusha T ethered that nigga Weezy on that diss track kid!"

But personally, while on the treadmill, Jay's Takeover no doubt gets more play on my iPhone over Ether.

Agree Or Disagree?
