Yesterday

Equal To And /Or Better?

Trust me, it's better. Marvin's soulful voice and the orchestration push this classic to another level. You can feel the desperation in Marvin's voice.

Why Kanye's Balls Are Bigger Than Yours

Let's face it, Kanye West has BALLS. He has just released a hip-hop/ techno album to go along with his 2 hip-hop / R&B albums with no cover art and without a clear cut radio single. In a genre that cannibalizes it's artists who veer to far from their paths that brought them fame, Kanye has managed to emerge from his artistic excursions unscathed. It doesn't matter whether or not you like or 808's And Heartbreak or Yeezus. There existence can only mean good things for the future of Hip-Hop. Would you hear the same singing Drake without Kanye's 808's And Heartbreak? Would Lil Wayne have the gall to release a rock album with Rebirth? The answer is no. We all know his flaws; He's an egomaniac, a douche, a blowhard, etc. But it takes a man of a certain ilk to do what he has done with the confidence that that he has done it with.

Being an outsider, he took a homophobic, thug-centric genre and flipped it on its head. His victory in the battle over album sales with 50 Cent represented a shift in the consciousness of a genre that prided itself on not having one. Modern Hip-Hop artists no longer had to be cemented and stubbornly categorized as hard (50 Cent, The Game), self conscious (Talib Kweli, Common) or flashy and materialistic (Diddy, Cam'Ron). Kanye Can you imagine an artist like this existing in Hip-Hop 15 years ago without being bombarded with disses. Can you imagine that countless shots that would be sent his way by guys like Eminem, Canibus, Big L, and Jadakiss.

Kanye's reign proves one thing; No matter how polarizing your attitude, behavior, demeanor, etc. is, your talent and quality of work will ultimately shine through. I mean c'mon, the man openly and aggressively humiliated America's sweetheart in front of millions and is STILL a hot commodity in the mainstream world. We may hate him but give the man his proper shine. His artistic progressions and experimentation's have spawned a generation of new artists and expanded a genre that was set in its ways.

3 Music Acts Most Straight Males Won't Admit They Love

Ever wonder why your BF told you his sister added three Backstreet Boys albums to his iPhone? Did you find it weird that you overheard your friend listening to "Bye Bye Bye" on the cross trainer at the gym but when he saw you he immediately ripped his head phones from the jack? As A Straight Male/KiNG, I know it's hard to admit to liking certain music without being laughed at by your boys, even if it's good/great. Here are three popular acts with good music that most straight men won't admit to liking because it's not masculine. It's okay men, be free with your love of sweet pop melodies, group hugs, generic dance routines, leather pants, and highlighted hair even Jennifer Aniston didn't have the balls to pull off.

1. Backstreet Boys - No male wants to admit to liking a boy band, but play "I Want It That Way" for your boyfriend and don't be shocked if he isn't singing the chorus just as passionate as B-Roc.

Irressistible Songs:
I Want It That Way
Quit PLaying Games With My Heart
As Long As You Love Me
Larger Than Life

2. *NSYNC - Once again, no male wants to admit he likes a boy band, especially one with members who at one point have highlights and goofy dreads. The 90's produced quite a few, but *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys took boy bands to a stratosphere of fame that paved the way for bands like OneDirection. In all honesty, It's just not cool to like a band every teenage girl fawns over. It's more masculine to like 2Pac and Metallica. But you must be dead between the ears if these songs don't tickle your fancy.
Irresistible Songs:
I Want You Back
Tearin' Up My Heart
Bye Bye Bye
This I Promise You

3. Lady GaGa - Most guys associate GaGa's fans with females or people involved with the LGBT movement. Personally, while on a jog I'll be blasting "Bad Romance" but as soon as I run past another human being I lower the volume like my life fucking depended on it. Every KiNG has a soft spot folks.

Irresistible Songs:
Poker Face
LoveGame
Alejandro
Bad Romance

Remix Of The Day

The Call (Neptunes Remix) - The Backstreet Boys Ft. The Clipse (I Know, Like WTF?! Right...)

This Is A Rare Remix Because This Was Released At A Time Before Rapping With Pop Artists Was Accepted. The Neptunes Broke That Barrier By Working With The Likes Of *NSYNC, Britney Spears & The Backstreet Boys In The Early 2000's, Opening A Flood Gate Of Recent Corny Justin Bieber And Ludacris Collaborations. Good For You Neptunes And At The Same Time Fuck You Neptunes. The KiNG Has Spoken.

Horrible Songs By Music Acts That Can Do No Wrong

My 1st Single By Eminem / Off The Album Encore

Why is it horrible? : Corny beat and horrible chorus. The Eminem produced track is incredibly dull and amateurish. Like the song FACK, another fucking ear raping, this is what happens when an artist feels that he can do no wrong and is allowed to run around free without a leash.

Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite By The Beatles / Off The Album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Why is it horrible?: Speaking of leashes, there is no reason for this song to be on the album. John talks over a carnival sounding orchestration that tells the tale of a circus benefit for Mr. Kite. No singing really. No great riffs. That's it. Sounds pretty fucking unnecessary right? I dislike concept albums, especially concept albums that feel the need to over impose skits or scene setting songs like this. The Temptations never did this type of shit because they were too busy singing there fucking asses off for a relentless taskmaster, Berry Gordy. The Temptations did not have the leash for this artsy bullshit. I love The Beatles but this song always gets the skip.

The KiNG's Advice

For those of you anal nitpicky audiophiles who edit your iTunes song information to a T, I suggest you check out Discogs.com. Looking for the writer and producer of an old and obscure Jackson Browne record? Want the name of the asshole behind the recent Justin Bieber record, because you know damn well that kid isn't writing his own shit? Check out Discogs.com and send your roses and mustard gas bombs accordingly. Thank Me Later.

Jay-Z "TAKEOVER" or Nas's "ETHER"

.. And The Winner Is? Nas' Ether or Jay-Z's Takeover?

OK, We All Know Who Won The War Between Both Artists. But The Battle That Ensued Over The Vacant Throne Of New York Hip-Hop After The Passing Of Biggie Gave Us Two Of The Best Diss Tracks Ever Made. So The Relevant Question Is, In Hindsight, Which One Is Better?

Better Beat: Takeover

The sample of The Doors' "Five To One" is what pushes Kanye's hard knocking beat over the top. It is far more energetic than Ron Browz slower orchestral pulsating production.

Better Chorus: Ether

I can recite Nas' complex long winded chorus from the top of my dome. It's that catchy and far more challenging than Jay's simple "R.O.C. We Running this Rap Shit!" Nas takes Jay's I will not lose proclamation and turns it on its head, so I give it to Nas.

Better Lyrics: Draw

Both guys go hard. Nas is more focused on the Roc-A-Fella camp while Jay takes on other New York heavyweights such as Mobb Deep and pretty much gave Prodigy's rep an uppercut at the time by showing Summer Jam's audience pictures of the young Prodigy participating in a fruity dance recital. In the end, Ether has far surpassed Jay's Takeover in hip-hop culture itself. In hip-hop circles, the term "Ether" is now used to describe the ultimate diss. As in, "Yo Pusha T ethered that nigga Weezy on that diss track kid!"

But personally, while on the treadmill, Jay's Takeover no doubt gets more play on my iPhone over Ether.

Agree Or Disagree?
